I'm pretty upset that Bourque and Alzner didn't make the team because wavier status, and money. The Caps are trying to win the Stanley Cup this year. Alzner was one of the best 6 defenceman in camp, so he should have a spot on the team. Bourque out-performed a lot of the forwards, and he proved he can be a good NHL player. With that said, here's you 2008-2009 Washington Capitals.
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov
Laich-Fedorov-Semin
Fleischman-Nylander-Clark
Brashear-Steckel-Bradley
Fehr, Gordon
Morrisonn-Green
Poti-Jurcina
Erskine-Schultz
Theodore
Johnson

I gotta be honest with you. I think Alzner and Bourque will benefit from a little time in Hershey. Up there, they will, as Boudreau pointed out, play 20-25 minutes in a game, as opposed to 5-8 minutes in Washington. That will help them develop faster, and once the salary cap has opened up a tad, we'll have them back in Washington very quickly, I'm sure.
I'm not upset about this. I don't have any Jack Adams Awards on my shelf, after all. I think Boudreau is a superb coach, and that he knows what he's doing, and that we WILL see these guys again!
I think playing in Hershey will benifit Alzner a little bit, but Alzner is all ready better then Jurcina and Erskine, and Bourque has been in the AHl for the past 3 years. Bourque out performed Fehr at camp this year.
Very true on Bourque. I think with him it was more the salary cap than anything else, because he kicked butt out there.
One thing I did note about Bourque is that he's listed at 5'7... He's a tiny guy compared to the rest of the Caps, and a full five inches shorter than the shortest of the forwards. Only Jose Theodore of the rest of the team is under 6' in height, and he's 5'11.
That tells me Boudreau was going for physically "large and in charge" this year, at least in part. But yes, Bourque is a very talented player, and I'd like to see him come back up as soon as there's space in the salary cap to pay him.
I think that's one of the reasons why Bourque's size won't matter. The Caps are the biggest team in the NHL(I'm serious, they are the tallest, and 2nd in weight). So we can afford to have a small guy on the team. Bourque isn't afraid of anything. He laid a pretty decent hit on Chara who is more then 1 foot taller.
Mcphee has said that both of them should expect some time in D.C. this year. So they will get their chances at some point.
aww no Laing? Damn
I'd like to see Ovechkin and Fedorov on the same line with Kozlov. But I don't want to leave Backstrom out as well. An all-Russia first line would be so cool nevertheless! Could be a good idea if Backstrom's ankle doesn't get better.
Maybe the Caps could bring back the Russian world championship lines. Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin. I could see them together on the PP, or if the Caps are losing and need a boost.
